The hike is named in memory of Glen Ferguson, who was a dedicated and proficient hiker. The route includes a side trail generously dedicated in August, 2000 by the Iroquoia Club of the Bruce Trail Association in memory of Glen and you will see signs marking the Glen Ferguson Side Trail.

In May 2010, hikers raised $20,014, for the McMaster University Bone Marrow Transplant/Leukemia Research Fund. The hike has now raised $198,000 and is the single biggest contributor to the fund.
